In a Decision penned by Supreme Court Justice Carpio, the Supreme Court has seen fit to increase the number of party-list representatives in the House of Representatives.

On April 21, 2009, the SC issued its ruling in the case of Barangay Association for National Advancement and Transparency (BANAT) vs. COMELEC, et. al. which effectively altered the formula for computing the number of seats in Congress for party-list representatives. What this means is (a)bigger allocation of government funds for the lower house, i.e., additional pork barrel to be distributed which will, in all probability, be used for purposes other than to benefit the public; and (b) I would have to change my course syllabus for this coming semester in the College of Law.

Let’s just all hope and pray that these additional party-list representatives will be worth all that pork barrel.
