In all fairness, she had a good answer in mind. She’s never made any mistake she’s ever regretted because it’s a learning experience, with the help and support of her family and friends. But it was the way it was presented. Blame it on (a) the nerves, (b) the excitement that she’s just gotten in the top 5, (c) the fact that no matter what happens, she’ll be bringing home a prize, (d) the probability that she’s always wanted to be asked a question by William Baldwin, (e) the simple reason of having gone to Las Vegas, at last or (f) all of the above. Whatever may be the reason for the blunder, one thing is sure, the Philippines is back on the map. In any case, let me quote Ruffa Gutierrez who, upon being interviewed by the press after the infamous Filmfest Scandal, “leave me the fuck alone!”
At least, having Ms. Raj as the last runner up in the Ms. Universe is much better news than the hostage taking and killing of several Chinese citizens by a dismissed policeman. What is it with Chinese and the Philippines? They’re always in trouble, whether it’s being kidnapped, or hostaged or killed or all of the above. Does that say anything about the relationship of Filipinos and Chinese, i.e., that the latter are just milking cows of Filipinos? I surely hope not, especially for the majority.
Being the last runner up in a beauty contest is still a lot better than being laughed at for having stupid policemen who, to save the hostages, throw teargas inside the bus and then find out they can’t go in because, surprise surprise, they don’t have gas masks! What a bunch of idiots, if I do say so myself. Not to mention, it was covered by CNN, what a total humiliation! I bet viewers didn’t know whether to be horrified or be amused at the sheer idiocy.
And so, these were the hot topics as hubby and I celebrate our 4th year wedding anniversary. Ahh, it has been a memorable one.
